HPPSC Medical Officer: Official SAT Syllabus

The Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission publishes this four-page syllabus for the descriptive Subject Aptitude Test for Medical Officer (General Wing), Department of Health and Family Welfare. This page summarises the official syllabus, not a coaching topic list.

SAT Exam Pattern

Duration: 3 hours. Maximum marks: 120. Questions cover MBBS-level topics. Part I carries 60 marks and Part II carries 60 marks.

Part I: General Medicine and Paediatrics (60 Marks)

General Medicine: cardiology, respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal and genitourinary disorders, neurology, hematology, endocrinology, metabolic disorders, infections, nutrition/growth, dermatology, musculoskeletal system, psychiatry, emergency medicine, poisoning, snakebite, tropical medicine, critical care, medical procedures, pathophysiology, vaccine-preventable diseases, vitamin deficiency, medical genetics, chromosomal disorders and adult immunization.

Paediatrics: childhood emergencies, protein-energy malnutrition, newborn care, developmental milestones, accidents and poisoning, birth defects and counselling including autism, immunization, children with special needs, and national child-health programmes.

Part II: Surgery, Obstetrics and Community Medicine (60 Marks)

Surgery includes general and urological surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, thoracic surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, anaesthesiology and traumatology. Topics include common surgical ailments, pre/postoperative care, ethical and medicolegal issues, wounds, fluid/electrolyte management, shock and burns.

Gynaecology and Obstetrics covers antenatal/intranatal/postnatal conditions, normal and complicated labour, fetal medicine, applied anatomy/physiology, infections, neoplasms, displacement of uterus, high-risk pregnancy, abortion, growth retardation and medicolegal examination.

Family Planning includes contraceptives, IUD/oral pills, sterilization and medical termination of pregnancy. Preventive Social and Community Medicine includes epidemiology, demography/statistics, health administration, communicable/noncommunicable diseases, environmental health and nutrition.
