Qualifications and Age
Essential: recognised medical qualification included in the specified schedules of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, with the conditions in section 13(3) where applicable, and completed compulsory rotating internship. Read the precise qualification wording in the official notice.
Age: 18-45 years on 1 January 2026. Five-year relaxation is available to the specified bonafide HP SC/ST/OBC/WFF/persons-with-disabilities categories under the notice conditions, including availability of a reserved post. HP government employee and ex-servicemen concessions follow the stated government rules.
Reservation is for eligible bonafide HP residents. Reserved-category applicants from other states are treated as General category. Desirable qualifications include the specified postgraduate medical qualification and knowledge of HP customs/dialects; desirable is not the same as essential.
Selection and Official Syllabus
The normal process uses written screening/SAT followed by a personality test, with applicant-ratio exceptions in the advertisement.
Paper I: 1-hour objective CBT/offline screening, 100 marks. HP general knowledge 30, national/international affairs 30, Hindi 20 and English 20.
Paper II: 3-hour descriptive Subject Aptitude Test, 120 marks at MBBS level. Part I: General Medicine and Paediatrics, 60 marks. Part II: Surgery, Gynaecology/Obstetrics/Family Planning and Preventive Social/Community Medicine, 60 marks.
SAT qualifying marks: 45% General, 40% reserved categories. Personality test: 30 marks, minimum 40% General and 30% reserved categories. Important Negative-Marking Rule
Wrong answers, multiple answers and answers left completely blank attract a penalty of one fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question. There are A-D answer options plus E for a question the candidate chooses not to answer. To intentionally skip, mark E as instructed, rather than leave every option blank.
