SSC CHSL Typing Test 2026 uses different rules for LDC/JSA and Data Entry Operator posts. For LDC/JSA, the official requirement is 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi. This guide explains clauses 13.9.13 of the official 2026 notice; it is not an admit-card release or a new application window.

LDC/JSA speed, time and Hindi font

The normal test is a given passage typed accurately on a computer in 10 minutes. Candidates eligible under the notice scribe provisions receive five extra minutes, making 15 minutes. English 35 WPM corresponds to about 10,500 key depressions per hour; Hindi 30 WPM to about 9,000. Hindi candidates must use Mangal font; another font leads to non-qualification.

Can the typing language be changed?

The English/Hindi choice entered in the online application is final. The Commission does not accept later changes. Practise in your selected language instead of assuming you can change at the test venue.

DEO skill test: 15,000 or 8,000 key depressions?

Post groupSpeedNormal time
DEO/DEO Grade A in departments or ministries under notice paragraph 8.115,000 key depressions/hour15 minutes
Other advertised DEO/DEO Grade A updates8,000 key depressions/hour15 minutes

The first group receives about 3,700-4,000 key depressions of English material; the second about 2,000-2,200. Eligible scribe-category candidates receive five extra minutes, making 20 minutes. DEO skill testing is mandatory, with no candidate exemption.

Exemption and error rules

For LDC/JSA typing only, the notice allows a narrowly defined disability exemption where a competent government medical authority certifies the candidate permanently cannot type, with prescribed certificates. It does not apply automatically to every PwBD candidate. Read paragraph 13.9.13.7(vii) and the named annexures. Skill-test errors are calculated to two decimal places and evaluated under SSC guidelines. This guide does not invent an acceptable error percentage.

Practice checklist

  1. Confirm your applied post group and chosen language.
  2. Practise an accurate full 10-minute LDC/JSA passage or 15-minute DEO passage.
  3. Use Mangal for Hindi and check errors, not speed alone.
  4. Read the eventual official test/admit instructions for venue-specific requirements.
