How to Apply for Government Jobs Online: Registration, Documents and Final Submission
A practical application checklist for readers using SSC, UPSC, SBI and state recruitment portals. The exact advertisement and live application form always take priority. This guide does not promise eligibility, selection or acceptance of an application.
Checked on 1 October 2026. SarkariJobDaily is an independent information website, not a government website.
Start With the Correct Notification
- Match the organization, advertisement number, post code and application year. Read the official PDF and any correction notice before entering personal data.
- Check the application deadline and closing time, age cut-off, qualification, experience, category rules and fee exemptions for the selected post. Requirements can differ within one advertisement.
- Use the official application link from the recruiting authority. A mirror PDF or social-media message is not proof that an application window is open.
- Keep the advertisement, corrigendum and portal instructions together. If they appear inconsistent, ask the authority before final submission rather than guessing.
Registration and Contact Details
- Use your own active email address and mobile number. Save the registration number and account-recovery details securely.
- SSC: use One-Time Registration on ssc.gov.in. The CHSL notice explains that the old ssc.nic.in OTR is not valid on the new website.
- UPSC: Advertisement 12/2026 describes Account Creation, Universal Registration, Common Application Form and a separate vacancy-specific application. Completing registration alone is not an application for every vacancy.
- SBI: use the Apply Online route for the exact advertisement on Current Openings. Retain your provisional registration number and password if the form is saved.
- Avoid duplicate accounts unless the official helpdesk explicitly instructs you to create one.
Documents to Prepare
- Identity and date of birth: the proof listed in the notification.
- Education: certificates and mark sheets supporting the essential qualification for the selected post.
- Experience: certificates covering the dates, role and duties required, where experience is mandatory.
- Reservation and concessions: current category, EWS, disability or other claim-specific documents in the prescribed format, where applicable.
- Photo and signature: follow the actual portal format. Some forms require a live photograph; do not assume that an uploaded passport photo works everywhere.
- File size, type and resolution are portal-specific. Clear scans must remain readable after compression. Upload only the documents requested for your claims.
Note: this is a preparation checklist, not a universal document rule. Never invent or alter a certificate, category claim, qualification or experience date.
Examples of Portal-Specific Upload Rules
The SSC CHSL 2026 notice describes a live photograph and a JPEG/JPG signature of 10-20 KB, approximately 6 cm by 2 cm. Follow the additional instructions for Aadhaar authentication and disability documents where applicable.
UPSC Advertisement 12/2026 has its own photo/live-photo and signature instructions. It requests an image of three signatures in black ink, one below another. Read the CAF instructions before uploading.
SBI's Wealth Management notice lists photo, signature, resume, identity/age proof, qualifications, experience and applicable claim documents. Its document rules differ from SSC and UPSC. Do not reuse one portal's limits on another portal.
Fill, Review and Submit
- Enter names, date of birth, education and claim details exactly as supported by your documents. Review imported or pre-filled information too.
- Choose the correct post and preferences. Applying for one vacancy does not automatically apply you to another.
- Inspect the preview, photo, signature and every uploaded file before the irreversible final-submission step.
- If a fee applies, use the payment gateway linked from the official application. Check both transaction status and application status; do not pay twice merely because the first page is slow.
- Complete final submission before the notified deadline. Download the final application and receipt, and keep the application number.
- A saved draft, registration confirmation or payment receipt alone does not prove that the application was finally submitted.
After Submission
- Check whether the authority offers a correction window and what can be changed. Do not assume that every field remains editable.
- Use the official website and your candidate account for scrutiny notices, exam schedules, admit cards and results.
- Retain original certificates for verification. Review email and SMS notices without trusting unsolicited requests for payment or credentials.
- If you find a mistake or a payment mismatch, use the helpdesk in the official notification and retain supporting screenshots.
